Imperial Steam Yacht "Livadia", Russia, 1881

An oval, floating palace designed for Czar Alexander II by the famous Admiral Popoff. Though Scotch-built and sumptuously appointed, she failed miserably and ended her career as a repair ship for the Black Sea Fleet.

Paddle Tug "Anglia", 1866

Also known as "Three-Fingered Jack" because of its curious funnel placement, this paddle tug was the biggest and most powerful on the River Thames. Among other feats, it towed the fabled "Cleopatra" home to Merry Old England. Lots of fiddly bits on this one!

An experimental "Cigar-Steamer". This unusual vessel featured 9-bladed propellers at each end and was the inspiration for Jules Verne's "Nautilus"
